Highlander Ranch OPRC ; Waco, TX

Highlander Ranch OPRC was started in October 2007. We're thrilled to say we have 16 members already, representing English and Western disciplines. Our members have varying experience and skill levels, from beginners to top-level competitors. We are very fortunate to have three Level 4 Certified CHA Instructors as officers who provide not only ratings certification, but also valuable instruction and insight and share their experiences and education with all the members.

We are lucky enough to have the use of the McLennan Community College Highlander Ranch facility, which includes a covered pavilion, indoor arena, outdoor dressage arena, and more than 100 acres of riding area. Many of our members board their horses at the ranch, but we certainly encourage members from outside the ranch to join us and take advantage of the great facilities.

We meet once a month at Highlander Ranch. We combine our meetings with some sort of activity including educational seminars or riding clinics. We offer an Open Ride every weekend for three hours during which all members can bring their horses and work on their arena skills, learn from each other, trail ride down below or just gather to visit. We try to schedule a trail ride monthly, weather permitting, at different ranches in the area and are excited about a weekend trail ride this spring that is in the planning stages.

Coming up this year we are planning a Western Rail & Trail clinic which dovetails the English Flatwork & Dressage for Beginners we held in 2007. Both are in anticipation of the fun show in the spring that will include a variety of events for all levels of riders. We’ve also scheduled clinics for round penning, yoga & massage, equine appraisal, jumping for the beginner & reining as well as a Family Play Day in the fall.

We’re very excited about our upcoming activities and welcome all riders and horse-lovers to join us!
